Bill Clinton speaks at UCD Hillary Rally

Bill Clinton came to UCD for the second time since he was President to speak on behalf of Hillary for her campaign. I missed him the first time, so I wanted to catch a glimpse of him this time around.

The turnout was amazing. There was a line five football fields long out the door. People had been lining up in the cold five hours before the event. My friends and I got in line an hour before. The line moved maybe fifty yards before someone came out and told us that capacity had been reached and the doors were closed.

People immediately started running straight for the doors. Those who had been waiting at the doors already were upset, to say the least, and one older woman kept yelling at us to get back in line. We didn't think it mattered; the doors were closed and everyone was just trying to peek in and catch a glimpse of Bill. It was a stroke of luck when a couple minutes later, they decided to open the doors and let more people in. We linked arms in the midst of a lot of pushing and shoving and quite literally got crammed through the narrow double doors and inside the ARC.

The place wasn't really at capacity. They had just closed off a lot of the sections. They opened up a few more for the new people they were letting in. We ended up sitting on the left side of the stage looking down. It wasn't a bad spot, but it was difficult hearing clearly since we were on the side of the speakers. I don't think we missed out on much, though. What I did hear sounded poorly written and forced. The theme of his speech was "a more perfect union." I didn't really enjoy it.

One thing was obvious, though. People are more in love with Bill Clinton than they are with his wife. He's a good public speaker and very charismatic. Hillary is a cold rock next to him.

I took a few crappy camera phone pics. Here's one of them:
